Ian de la Rosa is a screenwriter and film and television director. Trained in Film Direction at ESCAC, he has developed a career defined by a deeply human perspective on identity, desire, belonging, and social inequality.
In 2015, while still completing his studies at ESCAC, he directed Víctor XX, his graduation short film. Centered on the experience of a transgender teenager, the film received the Third Prize in the Cinéfondation section of the Cannes Film Festival, bringing De la Rosa to the attention of the international film community at an early stage in his career.
His work as a screenwriter expanded into television with Veneno (Atresmedia, 2020), the acclaimed series created and directed by Los Javis, where he was part of the writing team. He later joined the writing team of La chica invisible(Disney+, 2023), while continuing to develop his career as a television director. In 2023, he directed episodes of Vestidas de azul, continuing the exploration of trans lives, memories, and identities initiated by Veneno.
In 2021, Farrucas premiered at the Málaga Film Festival. The short film explores friendship, family, identity, and the expectations placed upon four young women of migrant backgrounds. It was nominated for the Goya Award for Best Fiction Short Film and received, among other distinctions, the Gaudí Award for Best Short Film, as well as awards at festivals including Vila do Conde, ASECAN, ALCINE, Palencia, and Elche.
His transition to feature filmmaking as a director came with Iván & Hadoum, a Spanish-German-Belgian co-production written and directed by De la Rosa. Iván & Hadoum had its world premiere in the Panorama section of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in February 2026, where it received the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film. The film continued its Spanish festival run with a strong presence at the 2026 Málaga Film Festival, where it received the Silver Biznaga – Special Jury Prize, while De la Rosa was awarded the Silver Biznaga for Best Screenplay. Its lead actor, Silver Chicón, also received a special mention.
