David Martín de los Santos

INFORMATION

After receiving up to ninety awards with his four short films, David wrote and directed La vida era eso, his first fictional feature film, which premiered at the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival and in the Official Selection of the 17th Seville European Film Festival (ASECAN Award for Best Film and Best Actress Award for Petra Martinez). David is currently nominated for the Goya Award for Best New Director, as well as the Andalusian Academy’s Carmen Awards. His leading actress, Petra Martínez, has been also selected for the same accolades, as well as the Feroz Awards (along with Anna Castillo) and the Carmen Awards. The film, on its side, has been granted several palms at the Liverpool International Film Festival (Best Film and Best Director), the Marseille International Film Festival (Audience Award, Young Jury Award and Best Actress Award), the Transylvania International Film Festival (Best Actress Award) and the Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival (Best First Work and Best Actress). It has also been prized at Abycine (Best Film) and at the Nuevo Cine Andaluz de Casares (Best Director), Almería (2nd Prize for Best Film), Tudela (Equality Award) and Merida Festivals (Young Jury’s Choice Award). At the moment, the film keeps crossing the borders after being presented at several important international festivals, including D’A (Barcelona), Washington, Malaga, Seminci or London. Shortly, it will also be showcased at Rabat, Golden Rooster (China), Nantes and the Santo Domingo World Film Festival.

David has also been prolific both as a documentary screenwriter and director. In 2005 his first documentary film, La isla durmiente, premiered in the Official Section of the Malaga Film Festival, later aired on TVE and selected in festivals around the world. It was awarded at the Barcelona and Lyon international film festivals.
