Caye Casas was born in Terrassa (Barcelona) in 1976. Before establishing himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Spanish cinema, he first gained recognition as an illustrator and cartoonist for Diario Sport, where for eighteen years (1999–2017) he created the newspaper’s back-page comic strip, becoming a sharp and unmistakable signature for thousands of readers.
His transition into the audiovisual field began in short filmmaking, a creative laboratory in which he honed his style through works that received awards at dozens of international festivals. That period, marked by experimentation and narrative boldness, culminated in his feature film debut with Matar a Dios, a project as daring as it was personal, which won over audiences and received the Audience Award at the prestigious Sitges Film Festival.
Casas’ cinema is distinguished by an unsettling and incisive взгляд at the human condition, a precise command of dark humor, and a remarkable ability to craft powerful stories with minimal resources. His work moves between the grotesque and the intimate, challenging viewers and affirming him as a filmmaker with a singular voice within the landscape of Spanish cinema.
