Bel\u00e9n Mac\u00edas was born in Tarragona and trained in Madrid, where she earned a degree in Information Sciences from the Complutense University and graduated in Acting from the Royal School of Dramatic Art (RESAD). She later completed her training as a screenwriter at the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Ba\u00f1os, Cuba. She began her professional career as a screenwriter on various television programs and series, an experience that would strongly inform her later work as a director, particularly her keen attention to character development and performance. Alongside her audiovisual career, she has maintained an intense theatrical practice, directing key works by major playwrights such as Jean Genet (<\/span>El balc\u00f3n<\/span><\/i>), Ant\u00f3n Ch\u00e9jov (<\/span>El monje<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>La boda<\/span><\/i> y <\/span>El aniversario<\/span><\/i>) and Eug\u00e8ne Ionesco (<\/span>La cantante calva<\/span><\/i>).<\/span><\/p>\n

Her career as a television director is extensive and well established, having worked on some of the most significant Spanish fiction series of recent decades. She directed <\/span>Un lugar en el mundo<\/span><\/i> for Antena 3; <\/span>La se\u00f1ora<\/i><\/b>, <\/b>14 April: The Republic<\/i><\/b>, <\/b>V\u00edctor Ros<\/i><\/b> and <\/span>Fugitiva<\/i><\/b> for RTVE; <\/span>Hospital Central<\/i><\/b>, <\/b>El don de Alba<\/i><\/b> and <\/span>Madres. Amor y vida<\/i><\/b> for Mediaset, the latter also for Amazon Prime Video; as well as <\/span>Pura sangre<\/i><\/b> and <\/span>El juicio<\/i><\/b> for Amazon LATAM, and <\/span>UNA. Un nuevo amanecer<\/span><\/i> for Atresplayer. She has also directed several standalone television films, including <\/span>La Atl\u00e1ntida<\/i><\/b>, <\/b>El Monstruo del pozo, <\/i><\/b>and<\/span> Juegos de Familia<\/i><\/b>, as well as the miniseries <\/span>La Princesa de \u00c9bol\u200bi<\/i><\/b> and <\/span>Historias Robadas.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

In cinema, she made her debut with the short films <\/span>El puzzle<\/i><\/b> and <\/span>Mala espina<\/i><\/b>, which received more than seventy national and international awards and multiple nominations, including the Goya Award for Best Short Film. Her first feature film, <\/span>El patio de mi c\u00e1rcel<\/i><\/b>, produced by El Deseo and selected for competition at the San Sebasti\u00e1n International Film Festival, won numerous national and international awards and received four Goya Award nominations, establishing her as one of the strongest voices of her generation. Her second feature, <\/span>Marsella<\/i><\/b>, produced by Tornasol Media, earned two Goya Award nominations and several accolades. In 2023, she released <\/span>Verano en rojo<\/i><\/b>, her third feature film, which was met with notable acclaim from both audiences and critics.
