Analeine Cal y Mayor is a Mexican director and screenwriter trained at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico City, the ESCAC in Barcelona and completed her studies with Judith Weston in Los Angeles.

As a visual artist she received multiple grants such as UNESCO – Aschberg, Austria (2005). Global Arts Village, India (2006) and FONCA Residency in Berlin. Her work has been shown in numerous festivals and galleries such as Proyector 2010 International Video Art Festival, NCCA Moscow and Praxis Gallery.

Her screenplays have been awarded and recognized at Sundance Screenwriters Lab, Fundación Carolina, Fundación Toscano, Fonca Jóvenes Creadores and the screenplay of her debut feature “The Boy Who Smells Like Fish” won Best Screenplay at WIFTS Awards (Women International Film and TV Showcase 2013 Los Angeles).

Her most recent film,“Book Of Love”, was released on February 2022 around the world both in theaters and on Amazon Prime. It features Sam Claflin (Hunger Games, Me Before You) and Veronica Echegui (Yo Soy La Juani) and was the winner of the “Best Prime Time Program” category at the 37th IMAGEN AWARDS in Los Angeles.

She has directed TV series for different platforms such as “Madre Sólo Hay 2” and “Contra Las Cuerdas” for Netflix; “Ella Camina Sola” for VIX; as well as the upcoming 2023 Amazon Prime premiere “Mala Fortuna” and “Amarres” for HBO Max, among others.

Her first feature film, “The Boy Who Smells Like Fish” which premiered at the Miami International Film Festival and in the official selection of Guadalajara 2013. It features actors such as Carrie Ann Moss (The Matrix), Zöe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) and Ariadna Gil (Pan’s Labyrinth). Her second feature film “La Voz De Un Sueño” premiered at the Morelia International Film Festival and his third feature film, “Donde Los Pájaros Van a Morir”, starring Flavio Medina and Sofía Sisniega, was released through the VIX platform.

She is currently working on several projects, including “Cada Minuto Cuenta”, an Amazon Prime series and the first Virtual Production in Mexico, as well as her documentary on euthanasia, “Dulce Muerte” with Viggo Mortensen as executive producer.
