Alberto Conejero

INFORMATION

Alberto Conejero López (Vilches, Jaén, 1978) is a playwright, stage director, and poet. He holds a degree in Stage Direction and Playwriting from the Royal School of Dramatic Art (RESAD) and a PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid.

Among his most notable theatrical works are Leonora, En mitad de tanto fuego (In the Midst of So Much Fire), El mar: visión de unos niños que no lo han visto nunca (The Sea: A Vision of Children Who Have Never Seen It), La geometría del trigo (The Geometry of Wheat), Los días de la nieve (The Days of Snow), Todas las noches de un día (Every Night of One Day), La piedra oscura (The Dark Stone), Ushuaia, and ¿Cómo puedo no ser Montgomery Clift? (How Can I Not Be Montgomery Clift?).

He has been responsible for numerous dramaturgies and adaptations of classical works for companies and institutions such as the Andalusian Flamenco Ballet (Pineda), Teatre Lliure (Medea), the National Ballet of Spain and Teatro de la Zarzuela (Electra), the National Classical Theatre Company (Fuenteovejuna), and the Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival (Troyanas), among others.

His work, which has premiered in more than twenty countries, has received numerous accolades, including the National Prize for Dramatic Literature, the Max Award, the Ricardo López de Aranda Prize, the Theatre Authors’ Association Award, and the Godot Award for Best Playwright, among others.

As a poet, he has published Si descubres un incendio (If You Discover a Fire, 2017) and En esta casa (In This House, 2020).

In 2025, he participated as co-screenwriter on La bola negra (The Black Ball), directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, a film adaptation of his play La piedra oscura.

His next audiovisual project is the adaptation of his play La geometría del trigo, winner of the National Prize for Dramatic Literature.
